Butter dish small HB 497A

The butter dish with the shape number "497A" by Hedwig Bollhagen is the little sister of the larger 497B. The butter dishes were designed by the Bauhaus ceramist Werner Burri. Characteristic features are the rectangular, flat saucer, which is somewhat raised at the edges, and the equally rectangular, bowl-shaped lid. At five and a half inches tall and nine and a half inches wide, the butter dish is about half as tall as it is wide. Burri solved the Bauhaus proclaimed rule of "form follows function" by designing the lid so that, conversely, it also serves as a base. In this way, the butter can be "enthroned" on the breakfast table and is more easily accessible for the whole family. Of course, you can also store liverwurst, cheese or whatever you enjoy in the 497A, but it is certain that this classic should not be missing on any design lover's breakfast table.
